Ruines d'Empúries, history of the Costa Brava

Empúries was the gateway for the first European visitors to the area. The Romans first settled in the 2nd century BC, and the Greeks a century later. It is an exceptional site where the remains of a Greek city coexist, created on the structures of a Roman military camp, an unmissable visit in a magical geographical enclave on the sea.

Empúries is an excellent place to learn a little about Greek and Roman urbanism. The excavations continue and every year new treasures are discovered that help to understand its history.

From the Ruines d'Empúries, along the coastal path from L'Escala, in a ten-minute walk along the sea, you reach the small medieval town of Sant Martí d'Empuries: inhabited since the 9th century BC, it was one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean and is impeccably preserved.

The Costa Brava hides fantastic places that deserve a nice excursion.
